Relational Clown Class

Three days to explore the foundations of relational clown work — discovering how to let your clown improvise from genuine encounters with others.

Rooted in artistic clowning (drawing primarily from the technique of Francine Côté), this workshop will establish some of the core fundamentals of the clown’s state of being, play, and connection — applying them to various relational clown tools, where the other person is at the heart of every improvisation.

We will specifically explore:

  • How do you initiate a playful, emotional exchange with anyone?
  • How do you create a powerful moment of connection in just a few minutes?
  • How do you lay the groundwork for a relationship of trust?
  • How do you meet someone through your clown?

We will learn to use the tools of relational clowning in order to:

  • GENERATE a state of joy, openness, and curiosity.
  • SPARK the desire to be invited into someone else’s world.
  • ESTABLISH non-verbal, playful, and emotional communication.

This workshop is intended for people who already have some experience with clowning. It combines relational clown work with an introduction to therapeutic clowning with children, and serves as a gateway to therapeutic clown training with seniors.
